Security: Symantec Endpoint Protection

Symantec Endpoint Protection is the university's corporate antivirus, antimalware solution. The current version that has been deployed to managed workstations and is available from the IST Download site is 11.0.6300.803.

Support for Mac OS 10.7 Lion

Symantec support for Mac OS 10.7 Lion clients will not be available till the first maintenance pack for SEP 12.1.

Continual Download Problem

A problem has been identified where workstations are constantly downloading data from the Symantec server. Home clients may notice a dramatic bandwidth increase from their Internet Service Provider. The Symantec Endpoint Protection client is attempting to download and install a newer version of the SEP client. If there is already something in the SEP "Download" directory the install will abort and the process repeat. Solution: To correct this problem go to your Symantec Endpoint Protection folder in C:\Program Files. (Symantec installs under different directory names in C:\ Program Files so it may be C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection or C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus.) Delete the contents of the "Download" folder. A symptom of this problem may be that the SEP client is not at the current version 11.0.6300.803.
